The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday afternoon. The Arizona Cardinals have already made one move near the deadline, acquiring wide receiver Robbie Anderson, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t add another player at a position of need.
The Cardinals have not been connected to any specific players but some players make sense.
It would make sense to upgrade and add a player on the defensive line and, if they could, add a proven pass rusher.
A pass rusher that is drawing interest from teams around the league, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, is Jacksonville Jaguars edge defender Josh Allen.
Perhaps the Cardinals are one of those teams showing interest, and it would make sense.
Allen was the seventh overall pick in 2019 and had 10.5 sacks as a rookie and had 7.5 last season for the Jaguars.
He is 6-5 and 262 lbs and only 25 years old.
Are the Jaguars making him available? That is the question, and then what would the price be?
He is under contract through next season on his rookie fifth-year option, which will pay him a little less than $11 million.
Like when the Cardinals traded for Chandler Jones, could Allen be acquired for a second-round pick?
They do have some young pass rushers in Cameron Thomas, Myjai Sanders and Victor Dimukeje, and those players have shown some promise, but to get an athletic freak who has proven production and can help them now, it makes total sense.
He could become a cornerstone piece of a young defense in the years to come.
The Jaguars might not move him. But general manager Steve Keim better have picked up the phone to at least inquire.
