Under new head coach Liam Coen, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ search for their next offensive coordinator is underway.
Coen did mention during his introductory press conference that he will be the one calling plays for the offense.
Whoever Coen lands on as his offensive coordinator, the task for the two remains the same: getting the most out of Trevor Lawrence.
As owner Shad Khan described recently, it was Coen’s answer to that question during the interview process that separated him from the rest of the interviewees.
While we didn’t get any specifics into what that all entails, Coen did say that he plans to build the offense around Lawrence. We can also look at Coen’s time in Tampa Bay and see that a strong running game will be a key element to turning the Jaguars’ offensive production around.
In addition to that, Lawrence will have plenty of autonomy at the line of scrimmage to change plays based on how the defense is aligned.
“How do we make Trevor Lawrence and this offense as dynamic and explosive as we can be? We’ve got to build it around him, we’ve got to make every part of this about improvement, and he will be a part of that process,” Coen said during Monday’s introductory press conference.
“He’s earned that right. I cannot respect his toughness and mentality and work ethic more than I do already from afar. This will all be about Trevor.”
Below are the offensive coordinator candidates that the Jaguars have interviewed. Be sure to check back in with Jaguars Wire to stay up to date on the search. Also, follow the links for more on each candidate.
Tavita Pritchard: Pritchard has been the Commanders’ quarterbacks coach for the last two seasons. This includes working alongside of Jayden Daniels during his highly impressive rookie season and under offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
Nate Scheelhaase: Scheelhaase was the LA Rams passing game coordinator in 2024 and before then, coached at Iowa State, which includes being the offensive coordinator in 2023. Coen considers himself apart of the Sean McVay coaching tree, so there would be some continuity with this hire, given that Scheelhaase coached under McVay as well.
