LA Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase will not be the Jacksonville Jaguars’ next offensive coordinator.
Instead, Scheelhaase will remain with the Rams, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
In just one season at the NFL level after making the jump from college football, Scheelhaase grabbed the attention of many across the league, as Rapoport put it, and in addition to interviewing for the Jaguars offensive coordinator opening, he also interviewed with Tampa Bay for the same role.
How close Scheelhaase was to becoming the Jaguars’ next offensive coordinator is not known, but there was a report over the weekend from Aaron Wilson that did mention that he had emerged as the “leading candidate” for that opening.
With the Jaguars having begun their search for general manager, it felt like the offensive coordinator role was on the cusp of being filled–and maybe it still is. Owner Shad Khan said last week that they would begin looking for their next GM once Liam Coen’s staff was filled out.
The other candidates that the Jaguars have interviewed for offensive coordinator are Washington’s quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard and fast rising Minnesota assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski.
Coen confirmed during his introductory press conference that he will be the play caller for the Jaguars’ offense.
