The Denver Broncos have a new head coach in Nathaniel Hackett and their former coach, Vic Fangio, is now a candidate for another head coach opening.
Fangio, who was fired by the Broncos at the end of the 2021 season, recently interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ job, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Jaguars general manger Trent Baalke served as the San Francisco 49ers’ GM from 2011-2016, overlapping with Fangio’s tenure as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator (2011-2014).
Fangio signed with Denver in 2019 as a first-time head coach with an impressive defensive resume. As expected, the Broncos’ defense played very well under Fangio, but the team’s offense struggled and Denver’s overall record of 19-30 over three years wasn’t good enough for Fangio to keep the position.
He’s now a candidate to get another shot as a head coach, and if Fangio doesn’t land in Jacksonville, he will undoutbtedly be a notable candidate for any team seeking a new defensive coordinator this offseason.
