With Liam Coen settled in, the Jacksonville Jaguars are moving quickly to fill their coordinator openings.
At this time, five candidates have already been interviewed for the defensive coordinator role, and the team announced on Tuesday evening their first offensive coordinator interview with LA Rams offensive assistant and passing game specialist Nate Scheelhaase.
The 2024 season was Scheelhaase’s first with the LA Rams. Before that, he coached at the college level, holding various roles with Iowa State since 2018, which includes being the running backs coach, the receivers coach, run game coordinator, and during his final season in 2023, the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
In Scheelhaase’s one season a the Cyclones offensive coordinator, Iowa State averaged 25.9 points per game, which ranked 66th in the FBS and 23rd in yards per play.
Coen confirmed on Monday during his introductory press conference that he will be the one calling plays on offense. He also considers himself part of the Sean McVay coaching tree, so bringing in Scheelhaase, who worked under McVay this past season, would provide some continuity in terms of scheme.
In addition to the Jaguars, Scheelhaase also interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their offensive coordinator opening.
