The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly hiring Shane Waldron to their offensive coaching staff, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The specific role for Waldron hasn’t been announced, but Fowler adds that he is likely to be the passing game coordinator.
This addition comes on the heels of the Jaguars announcing that they hired Grant Udinski to be the team’s offensive coordinator.
Waldron joins the Jaguars having offensive coordinator experience. He held that title this past season in Chicago before being fired mid-season, and he was also the Seattle offensive coordinator from 2021-2023.
Waldron has been a passing game coordinator previously, filling that role with the LA Rams from 2018-2020, which includes coaching with Liam Coen during that 2020 season.
During his introductory press conference, Coen did say that after two stints with the Rams, he does consider himself apart of the Sean McVay coaching tree, and you can see that influence as he builds out his coaching staff.
In addition to Waldron having spent time with McVay, Udinski coached under Kevin O’Connell, who was the Rams offensive coordinator before becoming the Vikings’ head coach.
The Jaguars have also interviewed Rams’ assistant offensive line coach Zak Kromer for their offensive line coach opening and have requested to interview the Rams’ Director of Scouting, James Gladstone, for their GM role.
Now the trio of Coen, Udinski, and Waldron will be tasked with getting quarterback Trevor Lawrence back on track.
“How do we make Trevor Lawrence and this offense as dynamic and explosive as we can be? We’ve got to build it around him, we’ve got to make every part of this about improvement, and he will be a part of that process,” Coen said during Monday’s introductory press conference.
“He’s earned that right. I cannot respect his toughness and mentality and work ethic more than I do already from afar. This will all be about Trevor.”
