It’s crazy that it was only four years ago the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. As he enters his fourth season, the franchise has until May 3 to decide whether it wants to pick up his fifth-year team option.
The media asked Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke on Friday if the team has had discussions with Allen about whether they will pick up that option. He told them that the team hadn’t conducted that discussion yet and didn’t offer any more details afterward.

It’s a little concerning that Jacksonville hasn’t even started to have those conversations with Allen as the end of April nears because it definitely should pick up his fifth-year option.
He burst onto the scene as a rookie and recorded 10.5 sacks. Injuries slowed Allen down in Year 2, but he was one of the team’s lone bright spots last season. He tallied 7.5 sacks but increased his tackling production where he accumulated 71, including 12 for a loss.
His fifth-year option is $11.5 million, according to Over the Cap. They are also projected to have around $43.7 million available in cap space next season, too, so fitting Allen into their plans shouldn’t be difficult.
