The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Rutgers cornerback Christian Braswell in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft with the No. 202 overall pick.
Braswell is smaller that the cornerbacks Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke typically covets at 5’10, 183 pounds. However, he’s not lacking for athleticism with 40-inch vertical and 4.49 40-yard dash.
In only one season at Rutgers after transferring from Temple, Braswell earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention for his play in 2022. He finished his only season with the Scarlet Knights with three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, one tackle for loss, and nine pass breakups.
Cornerback presented itself as one of the Jaguars’ biggest needs entering the 2023 NFL draft, but Braswell is the first player at the position picked by the team (although safety Antonio Johnson has plenty of experience in the slot).
Last year, the Jaguars added two cornerbacks — Gregory Junior and Montaric Brown — late in the 2022 NFL draft.
