The Jacksonville Jaguars have made another addition to their defensive coaching staff, reportedly hiring Matt Edwards to be the defensive line coach, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Edwards was previously the Buffalo Bills assistant defensive line coach during the 2024 season. This past year, Buffalo ranked 10th in pressure rate and 22nd in yards per carry allowed.
Prior to joining the Bills, Edwards was the defensive assistant and pass rush specialist with the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Edge rusher Maxx Crosby would post 12.5 and 14.5 sack seasons those years.
Edwards was also with the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2021 in various roles and coached at the college level from 2003-2017.
With the Jaguars, Edwards will have the opportunity to work with Josh Hines-Allen, Travon Walker, and Arik Armstead, among others.
Last season, the Jaguars’ defense ranked 15th in yards per carry allowed and 30th in pressure rate, according to Pro Football Reference.
The Jaguars’ defensive coaching staff is starting to take shape. With Anthony Campanile as the defensive coordinator, it was also reported on Sunday that Tem Lukabu will be the linebackers coach.
Campanile coached in a 4-3 defense in Green Bay and from the looks of it based on the coaching staff, that’s what he’ll do in Jacksonville.
Finding a defensive backs coach is next on the to-do list for the defensive side of the ball. Campanile could go with one secondary coach or separate cornerbacks and safeties coaches.
