Along with Pleasant, the Jaguars have also interviewed Patrick Graham and Daronte Jones for this role.
Pleasant has spent the last two seasons with the LA Rams. In 2024, he was the assistant head coach and passing game coordinator, and in 2023, Pleasant was the defensive backs coach and the passing game coordinator.
Pleasant has not yet been a defensive coordinator in his career, but his coaching background is rooted in the secondary, an area where the Jacksonville Jaguars must improve in 2025.
During this most recent 2024 season, the Rams’ pass defense ranked 17th in completion rate, 14th in interceptions, 27th in yards per pass attempt, and 23rd in passer rating.
However, noteworthy among these season long numbers is that as the year progressed, the Rams defense as a whole steadily improved. In 2023, the Rams ranked top 10 in completion rate allowed and interceptions, and were 14th in yards per attempt and 12th in passer rating.
“I’m gonna be involved, but it’s more the shared vision of the identity, the style of play,” said Coen about the defensive coordinator role. “How do we continue to drive home the message of the style of play that we want to work with and play with that’s within the meetings, like being in the meeting sometimes.”
