The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is still off on the horizon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t make many splashes in the months after winning the AFC South in 2022. Rather than pour money into free agency or swing a big trade to land a star in the 2023 NFL draft, the Jaguars settled for base hits and tried to retain the majority of their roster.
With so few moves made to upgrade the roster, it’s Calvin Ridley who stands to be the most significant boost for the Jaguars.
Acquired in a midseason trade during the 2022 season, the former Atlanta Falcons receiver was ineligible to play at all last year while serving a suspension for gambling on sports.
Now the former first-round pick has been reinstated and is set to make his Jacksonville debut this fall.
Contract: $11.116 million base salary (2023); $11.116 million cap hit (2023). Due to become free agent in 2024.
Acquired: Falcons traded Ridley to the Jaguars on Nov. 1, 2022.

Quote: “He wants to go so much, and so fast, and so hard in practice that we just kinda have to pump the brakes and say ‘Hey, now’s not the time.’ But he’s doing a great job, he’s picking up the offense well. The times that he’s working with Trevor [Lawrence], they’re on the same page, they’re connecting. Those are good things to see.” – Jaguars coach Doug Pederson
