The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is still off on the horizon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars picked twice in the top 20 selections of the 2020 NFL draft. The first of those picks, C.J. Henderson, spent less than two years with the Jaguars before he was traded away. The second, K’Lavon Chaisson, hasn’t been much better.
The former LSU outside linebacker was supposed to provide a boost to the Jacksonville pass rush, but three season into his NFL career, he’s recorded just one sack each year. Unsurprisingly, the Jaguars decided earlier this offseason that they wouldn’t pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.
As such, Chaisson is now entering a contract year. While Jaguars coaches say he could be primed for bigger things in 2023, a roster spot is no guarantee given his lackluster production.
Contract (2023): $2,429,720 base salary, $1,816,293 prorated signing bonus, $4,246,013 salary cap hit.
Acquired: Jaguars drafted Chaisson with the No. 20 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.

Quote: “K’Lavon has put that time in, and it’s been quality time, and you see it in his movement. Now it’s a matter of bringing it all together and make sure that he’s healthy, so he’s peaking at the right time.” – Jaguars outside linebackers coach Bill Shuey on Chaisson
