The best case scenario for a long snapper is for their name to go unmentioned during a game. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Ross Matiscik has managed to disappear into the background just as planned.
Three seasons into his NFL career, Matiscik has been as reliable and consistent as the Jaguars could’ve possibly hoped when they gave him the job in 2020. So much so that Jacksonville dished out a five-year contract extension to Matiscik during the 2022 offseason.
With Matiscik doing the snapping, punter Logan Cooke has developed into one of the NFL’s best at his position and kicker Riley Patterson had a great year after joining the Jaguars in August. Jacksonville’s hopeful that Matiscik can continue to provide great results with Brandon McManus taking over the kicking duties.
Contract (2023): $1.01 million base salary, $110,000 prorated signing bonus, $1.12 million salary cap hit.
Acquired: Jaguars signed Matiscik as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2020.
