More details have emerged from the strange case of Amit Patel, the former Jaguars employee who reportedly stole more than $22 million from the franchise.
Patel used a heavy chunk of the money he attained by exploiting Jacksonville’s virtual credit card program to play daily fantasy sports on FanDuel and DraftKings, according to ESPN’s David Purdum.
Patel, under the username “ParlayPicker” on the two sites, gained a reputation in the betting community. And not a good one, either.
One veteran DFS player told Purdum that Patel was "the biggest loser ever on FanDuel" and described him as “legendarily bad.”
The former Jaguars employee reportedly put nearly $500,000 into fantasy tournaments since 2017, including entering high-stakes contests that had buy-ins around $24,000.
Another DFS player told ESPN that Patel would often submit lineups that included players who weren’t in a team’s starting lineup—or sometimes forget to submit a roster at all.
Patel’s most recent daily fantasy tournament was the DraftKings’ world golf championship in July. In a contest with a $29,000 buy-in, Patel finished tied for 129th out of 150 finalists.
Patel was employed by the Jaguars from 2018 to ’22, working his way up to the role of manager, financial planning and analysis.
