Jags’ Brandon Scherff gets a respectable ranking on PFF’s guard tier rankings

The Jacksonville Jaguars bolstered their defense more than their offense this offseason, but that still doesn’t mean they didn’t make significant additions around quarterback Trevor Lawrence. In addition to bringing in new pass-catching threats like Christian Kirk, Zay Jones, and Evan Engram, the Jags added at least two new starters to the offensive line, including veteran guard Brandon Scherff.

While Scherff hasn’t played in a full season since 2016, his addition gives the Jags one of the more respected guards in the NFL. He’ll come into 2022 with five Pro Bowl selections and one All-Pro selection.

Scherff’s Pro Football Focus grades have been solid over the years, too. He’s never registered a grade of lower than 73.6 in seven seasons, which means the Jags are getting a consistent player when he is on the field. That’s exactly why he was listed in Tier 3 of their recent guard rankings, which put him in the “very good” category with Joe Thuney, Laken Tomlinson, and Kevin Zeitler.

The Jags signed Scherff to a three-year $49.5 million deal that guarantees $30 million in March. And while some may question that when considering his age and ability to stay healthy, he should be a massive upgrade over last season’s starter A.J. Cann when on the field.

Scherff won’t be the only new piece on the offensive line who could make the unit look better. They also drafted Luke Fortner in the third round and have 2021 second-round pick Walker Little set to potentially earn the starting right tackle job.
