It’s been known for a while that many of Urban Meyer’s assistants wouldn’t be retained, and on Tuesday, one more departure was confirmed. That departure was from former receivers coach Sanjay Lal, who has joined the Seattle Seahawks’ staff as a receivers coach and offensive passing game coordinator.
The Seahawks’ addition of Lal reunited him with the organization he was with before coming to Jacksonville, as he was a senior offensive assistant on Pete Carroll’s staff. However, Nate Carroll, who is Pete Carroll’s son, will be moved to the role Lal once had with the Seahawks after previously being the team’s receivers coach.
Lal was one of the assistants Jags fans were the most vocal about in 2021 as the receivers group didn’t have the season they were hoping for. It didn’t help that the group lost DJ Chark Jr. Week 4, but even when he was available, the team was underperforming at the position.
Now, Lal will look to get back on his feet with Seattle and will be working with a receivers group that currently has more talent than Jacksonville when considering that it’s led by D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
As for the Jags, they have yet to name a receivers coach under new coach Doug Pederson. However, with him being an offensive-minded coach, the hire will be an important one to the staff, especially with a lot of change potentially coming to the roster at the position.
