NEW YORK — Alanis Morissette fans, there’s something you oughta know.
The musical “Jagged Little Pill,” packed with Morissette tunes from her 1995 album of the same name, is set to premiere on London’s West End in November.
The upcoming England run follows the Tony- and Grammy-winning production’s Broadway romp, which abruptly ended in December when New York City was plagued by the quick-spreading omicron variant of COVID-19.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to see this musical head to the West End,” Morissette said in Friday’s London announcement. “It’s been such an incredible experience to be a part of and I’m so excited to see it continue to grow and travel.”
The show officially opened on Broadway in December of 2019 before temporarily shutting down in March of 2020 when all shows on the Great White Way went on hiatus thanks to coronavirus. It reopened in October of 2021, before omicron cases amid the cast and crew caused the show to close down on Dec. 17, after which the decision was made to shut down for good.
The production tells the story of an American family in turmoil with help from Morissette hits like “You Oughta Know,” “Head Over Feet,” “Hand In My Pocket,” and “Ironic,” as well as new songs written just for the show. The Broadway version scored a season-record 15 Tony nominations, with writer Diablo Cody walking away with the award for best book of a musical, and Lauren Patten winning for best featured actress in a musical.
A North American tour of the production kicks off this fall and is set to hit more than 30 cities in its first year.
