Jadon Sancho told he's on "borrowed time" after brutal assessment from Man Utd legend

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has claimed struggling star Jadon Sancho is on "borrowed time" at Old Trafford as another underwhelming season draws to a close.

The former Borussia Dortmund ace was signed by the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 for an eye-watering fee of £73million but has failed to justify such a figure as of yet. United's interest in Sancho was long-standing, with the saga spanning across multiple windows before they finally got their man.

Since his arrival, Sancho has operated under three different managers in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, interim boss Ralf Rangnick and the current occupant of the Old Trafford hot seat in Erik ten Hag. He has failed to produce a real run of consistent form under any of them.

As a result, Yorke feels that it is only a matter of time before those running the show at United have a decision to make on Sancho's future.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Football on behalf of aceodds.com, Yorke claimed: "Yeah, it's one of a mystery, really. He had so much potential and hope for the likes of Manchester United. Huge investment, really did an amazing job when he was at Dortmund.

"Somehow the transition from there to Manchester hasn't really worked out in the way that we all thought it might for him. Really struggled, whether it's from a mental point of view, which seems to be well documented. He hasn't really really lived up to the price tag.

"So yeah, he's on borrowed time, I suppose, if you have to be fair in many respects. He hasn't really produced the goods that we expect him."

Despite missing a fair portion of this season, Sancho has still managed to make 24 appearances for United this term, though that has brought a fairly mediocre return of five goals.

Amid the festive period, just before the World Cup concluded, Ten Hag revealed Sancho would train alone after he sat out the club's mid-season training trip to Spain.

Speaking in December of last year, the United boss told reporters: "We want to bring him back as quickly as possible, but I can't give a prognosis of when that will be.

"Sometimes there are circumstances with fitness and mood. We got a drop of quality level and sometimes you don't know why or what is causing it.

"That is what we are doing now to try to get him back there. It is a combination of physical and mental."

Sancho is contracted to the club for another three years, but United do have the option to extend his stay for one more year, which would tie the 23-year-old to Old Trafford until 2027.
