Jadon Sancho offered as transfer makeweight with Erik ten Hag 'intent' on Man Utd exit

Jadon Sancho could become a makeweight as Manchester United look to keep alive their hopes of a move for Harry Kane, it has been claimed.

United have already made their first signing of the summer, landing Mason Mount in a deal worth up to £60million. With that sum representing roughly half their summer transfer budget, a number of players have been earmarked by manager Erik ten Hag for potential sales to raise further funds.

One of those, England international Sancho, is believed to be available for around £45m. Another option, however, could see him used in a part-exchange deal to bring Harry Kane to Old Trafford.

According to The Independent, Sancho is one of four senior stars who Ten Hag is looking to offload. The others - Fred, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire - have received reported interest from within the Premier League.

The same report suggests there has been minimal feedback with regards to any interest from Spurs in Sancho. The Kane scenario is believed to come from United's end, with Ten Hag a fan of the England captain.

Kane is entering the final year of his Tottenham contract, but this is no guarantee of a cut-price move. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 29-year-old, who scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season.

A forward and a goalkeeper are United's two biggest priorities as they look to build on last season's third-place finish in the Premier League. Cameroon stopper Andre Onana looks to be the preferred option to replace David de Gea, while a move for Atalanta frontman Rasmus Hojlund remains on the table if no Kane swoop materialises.

Whoever arrives in attack will not be inheriting Cristiano Ronaldo's old number seven shirt. That has been taken by former Chelsea star Mount, who has been speaking to club media following his arrival.

"I think, over the last several months, it became clear that I wasn't in the plans moving forward [at Chelsea] and, once I knew that United were involved, my decision was made up," the 24-year-old said. "It’s a massive club with huge, iconic players that have played here.

"I wanted to be a part of that from from the beginning. And obviously getting in early, ready for pre-season to start, was a main objective of mine as well."

United will kick off their pre-season campaign on July 12 with a match against Leeds in Norway. Their first Premier League game comes almost exactly a month later, with Wolves the first visitors to Old Trafford on August 14, and there is a tour of the United States in between.
