Jadon Sancho issues one-word Nemanja Matic verdict as Dean Smith takes Manchester United dig

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Saturday, April 16.

Praise for Matic

Jadon Sancho has shared a glowing one-word verdict on departing Manchester United teammate Nemanja Matic after the Serbian confirmed that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of this season. Matic announced the news on social media after five years with the Old Trafford giants.

Already set to prioritise central midfield signings when the transfer window reopens, Matic has given United more cause to strengthen. Set to lose Paul Pogba on a free for the second time, the shock update is almost certainly set to have an impact on recruitment plans.

Addressing his 2m followers on Instagram, the Serbian posted: "After a great deal of thought, I have decided this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision. It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club."

Smith sends jibe to United before fixture

Norwich City manager Dean Smith is hopeful that his side are playing United at the 'right time' when the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United suffered a disappointing defeat to Everton last weekend with Anthony Gordon's deflected strike the difference between the two teams on Merseyside. Norwich, meanwhile, have had a disappointing campaign of their own and sit at the foot of the Premier League.

However, a 2-0 victory over Burnley - which ultimately cost Sean Dyche his job at the Clarets - is likely to have given Norwich some much-needed confidence heading into the Easter weekend. Speaking ahead of the clash, manager Smith noted how tough it could be for his side but was hopeful of a result.
