Jadon Sancho dismisses "biggest worry" in Man Utd turnaround as valuable role highlighted

Jadon Sancho feels as if he is finally getting into the groove at Manchester United despite recently being labelled a "shadow of his former self".

The winger moved from Borussia Dortmund in the summer for £73million but endured a difficult opening period at Old Trafford.

Sancho's goal and assist output in Germany was a major plus but he struggled to make an impact initially in Manchester.

He was eventually snubbed by England and Gareth Southgate such was his poor form but has since started to click into gear.

Sancho scored in Sunday's Manchester derby and has become an increasingly influential figure for the Red Devils, despite failing to hit the ground running.

Harry Redknapp said earlier this year: "He's low on confidence. I'm watching him play and he's a shadow of the player we saw in the Bundesliga."

Sancho though, whilst admitting his return to England has not gone to plan, feels as if things are beginning to take shape on a personal basis.

The 21-year-old has become a regular as United look to mount a push for the top four.

He claimed: "I feel like I've learnt a lot. You know, new league, obviously playing with new teammates. "I feel like recently I've started to adapt into my proper self, and you can see that in the last few games I've played.

"I’m feeling more comfortable and feeling like myself. I’m happy."

Sancho made his debut on the opening weekend against Leeds and has started to make the left-wing spot his own.

The former Manchester City youngster was known for his ability to take on defenders as he rose to prominence in Germany, but the player himself believes his greatest asset sees his teammates benefit.

“I feel my best strength is probably drawing one or two players towards me to then free up space for my team-mates and then to release the ball,” Sancho told the club's website.

“Committing my players is my strong point and obviously one-v-ones is another aspect.”

Sancho has issued a social media apology in the wake of Sunday's defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Former United captain Roy Keane offered a scathing assessment after the game and warned players against posting on social media, calling instead for action on the pitch.

Nevertheless, Sancho has confessed the display was "not good enough".

He said: "Apologies to the fans… it’s not good enough. We have to look ourselves as players and work hard to make things right. We will keep on fighting."
