Jadon Sancho backed for Manchester United resurgence if Erik ten Hag makes key change

Manchester United will see winger Jadon Sancho replicate the form he showed for Borussia Dortmund under Erik ten Hag, a former Old Trafford hero believes.

However, he said that the incoming boss must ensure one aspect around the club is changed in order for this to happen. Sancho has underwhelmed his £73m price tag since moving from Germany last summer.

The England international has shown sparks that indicate world-class talent still remains in his armoury somewhere. But neither Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nor Ralf Rangnick have been able to find it and bring it out of him on a consistent basis.

United fans will have expected more than the five goals and three assists he has provided this season. But club legend Gary Pallister says this is due to the unharmonious atmosphere within the dressing room this term.

“Players like Jadon Sancho may have arrived at the club and walked into a toxic atmosphere,” he told Genting Casino. “We’ve seen little glimpses of the Jadon Sancho that was wowing the fans at Borussia Dortmund, but we’ve not seen it often enough.

“This could mean that dynamics in the dressing room need to change so that there’s a more positive feel around the place. You want a harmonious dressing room that has a good attitude with good characters and personalities. If United achieve that, then will we see a better Jadon Sancho.”

Pallister suggested that if Erik ten Hag can instil a healthy team ethos and progressive team cohesion, he may be able to bring the best out of Sancho and other team mates. He added: “Sancho hasn’t reached his heights shown in the Bundesliga or the Champions League just yet, but if he has a positive environment then we might see that again.

“These players don't become bad players overnight, so there's something really bad going on behind the scenes that is dragging certain players down. You'll see the players like Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho getting back to their best if they improve the environment.”
