Jadeveon Clowney made some strong negative comments about the team last week that resulted in his season-ending a game early with the Cleveland Browns. Fast forward a week later after an immense amount of public backlash and Clowney issued a public apology. The former number-one overall pick claims that his comments were taken out of context but that he would still like to apologize for them.
However, speaking on the Ken Carmen show Mary Kay Cabot said that a teammate overheard the comments and asked Clowney if “he was sure he wanted to say what he was saying.” This seems like a classic case of someone backtracking after realizing the backlash he received for the comments and not a sincere apology.
Clowney is looking for another contract this offseason and likely knows his comments hurt his chances so he had to issue this apology to see if it helps.
