Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of Will Smith, has shared her first message following the controversy that rocked the Oscars at the weekend.
On Sunday night, her husband stormed the stage and hit Chris Rock, the comedian, who had just made a joke at her expense. Smith has since apologised to Rock and the Oscars for the attack, which came just minutes before he won best actor for his role in King Richard.
Referring to Pinkett Smith’s buzzcut, Rock had said: “Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2.” Smith then walked up on stage and appeared to hit him before returning to his seat and shouting: “Keep my wife’s name out of your ******* mouth.”

Today, hours after her husband's apology, Pinkett Smith shared a message about “healing”. A quote posted on her Instagram page said: “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it.”
In an Instagram post issued on Monday afternoon US time - the early hours of Tuesday morning UK time - Mr Smith had previously said: "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.
"I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.
"I would also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologise to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress. Sincerely, Will."
