Jacques to appear on Love Island After Sun despite show being 'worst decision' of his life

Love Island contestant Jacques O'Neill will appear on After Sun tonight to discuss his dramatic exit from the ITV2 reality show.

Jacques, 23, moved out of the Spanish villa at the beginning of this week following the arrival of former Islander Adam Collard.

His love interest, Paige Thorne, is now coupled up with Adam and Jacques has said that going on the reality series was the "worst decision" of his life.

However, Jacques will still follow in the footsteps of dumped Islanders and appear on spin-off show Love Island: After Sun to chat to host Laura Whitmore about his journey.

Love Island's executive producer Mike Spencer told Deadline : "We respected his decision to head home but I think he’s excited to be on Aftersun on Sunday to discuss his journey."

Mike continued: "Jacques is amazing. We love Jacques. When you date, your emotions are naturally up and down.

"Finding love is not a simple thing, that’s why the show is so relatable.

"Jacques was on his own journey and he had a strong connection with Paige but sometimes you have to think about yourself and that’s what Jacques did," he added.

In his first interview since quitting, Jacques told The Sun he was "sobbing" constantly and that he "got in a rut" whilst living in the luxurious Spanish villa.

"I was ready to break down. I was feeling so mentally drained, I just wanted to go home and get myself right," he told the publication.

"It broke me and I was already broken. I was crying my eyes out. I couldn’t cope. I was literally feeling awful. It was the worst I’d ever felt in my life."

He added that he "couldn’t cope" in the villa, and said: "Doing Love Island was the worst decision of my life."

Following Jacques' comments, an ITV spokesperson said: "We cannot comment on any individual's medical records owing to confidentiality and our own duty of care towards the Islanders, however we have rigorous and extensive checks in place to assess Islanders' physical and mental health in advance of being cleared to enter the Villa. This is something we take extremely seriously.

"As we said at the time, Jacques made the decision to leave and we respected that decision. Islanders are welcome to leave should they choose to do so and we would never put pressure on someone to stay in the Villa," they added.

Love Island: After Sun airs tonight at 10pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
