Jacob Stockdale shares hospital photos after ankle surgery as he's ruled out for Six Nations

Jacob Stockdale has been ruled out of Ireland's upcoming Six Nations campaign after undergoing ankle surgery.

The prolific winger turned full back has been side lined with the ankle injury and opted to to undergo surgery.

But the Ulster and Ireland international is now likely ruled out for the rest of the season after going under the knife.

Taking to Instagram, Stockdale remained in high spirits and said he hopes surgery gives him the best chance of running back to full fitness.

He said: "It’s been a really frustrating couple of months for me with this ankle as nothing has seemed to go right with it. But hey, that’s life…

"Glad to have gotten the op now and hopefully puts me on the right track back to recovery! I’m gutted this probably means the end of my season but gives me an opportunity to come back fitter and stronger than ever"

And Stockdale had a number of messages of support with Ian Madigan saying: "You will smash this bro"

While Olympian Rhys McClenaghan said: "Speedy Recovery".

Ireland's Six Nations campaign gets underway when they take on Wales on February 5.
