The Jacksonville Jaguars have not seen success since 2012. Shad Khan and the Jags have a record of 64-148 since 2012.
They have been in the news as they search for a new head coach but the search has not been smooth.
Below, we will go over the hectic head coaching search timeline for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jacksonville Jaguars Hectic Search For New Head Coach
This has been a hectic offseason for the Jaguars as they search for a new head coach.
Here is the timeline of events:
- Jags fire head coach Doug Pederson but for some odd reason kept GM Trent Baalke
- Wanted to hire Ben Johnson but he did not want to join the Jags with Baalke still as the GM
- Jacksonville then pivoted to eyeing Liam Coen but got the same result, he did not want to join the team with Baalke as the GM
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers offered to make Liam Coen the highest-paid offensive coordinator but he can’t take another interview with the Jaguars
- Jags begin to interview Robert Saleh and he seems to be the favorite with Coen out of the running
- Jaguars realize their error and fire GM Trent Baalke, pivoting back to Coen and offering him “Ben Johnson” money
- Coen gets on a plane to Jacksonville for a second interview, violating the Buccaneers’ condition
- Bucs head coach Todd Bowles gets in contact with Coen at 5 PM, who says he is at a doctor’s office with his sick child, but briefly mentions wanting to circle back to Jacksonville
- Coen is now expected to be the new head coach for the Jags and the Bucs expect to lose their offensive coordinator
This is a wild sequence of events. On one hand, Coen has done a good job as OC and deserves to be a head coach. However, how it all came to be feels shady.
Coen should have been honest with the Bucs. Jacksonville should have realized sooner that Trent Baalke was hurting their chances of getting a head coach they were targeting.
This has been a mess for an organization that does not have a good track record.
