Jack Wilshere delivers brutal Gareth Bale Arsenal verdict amid Cardiff transfer links

Gareth Bale's Real Madrid contract expires on June 30, and the Wales star will have no shortage of options following his departure. The 32-year-old has enjoyed nine successful years in the Spanish capital, winning five Champions League crowns.

However, former Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere believes that the winger would not get into Arsenal's current team. The English midfielder made the claim while appearing on Talksport, and even went so far as to suggest that the former Tottenham midfielder would hold Arsenal back.

Asked about his views on whether or not he would like to see Bale join the Gunners, Wilshere gave a blunt response, saying: "No.

"I look at the players who would be playing in that position and they're young players who have arguably been Arsenal's best players over the last few years."

He added. "So one, I don't think he gets a game. And if he does, I think he'd be holding one of those players back."

Arsenal currently have Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and new signing Fabio Vieira who can operate in the right-sided role and Bale would have a lot of competition were he to join the club. For this reason, it is believed that the former Spurs and Southampton man will look elsewhere.

Cardiff are clear favourites to sign the Wales captain, and it said that he even visited manager Steve Morison this week ahead of a potential move to the Welsh capital. He was born in the city and has enjoyed a vast amount of success playing there with the Welsh national team and a return could make sense in the build-up to the World Cup this autumn.
