Jack Ross is being considered by Dundee chiefs as a potential replacement for Mark McGhee if they fail to beat the drop.
The Dark Blues hierarchy are fans of Ross and wanted him when he was manager of St Mirren.
The boss has been out of work since leaving Hibs in December last year, but is on the radar of the Dens hierarchy.
Dundee currently sit five points a drift at the bottom of the cinch Premiership table with just four games of the campaign left to play.
After sharing the points with second bottom St Johnstone last weekend, the Tayside outfit are battling for their place in Scotland's top flight under the command of current gaffer Mark McGhee.
McGhee took over in February but his Dundee side have failed to win a game since - with five draws and five losses in total.
And now club chiefs are starting to consider their options for next season.
With Championship football a likely outcome next year, the Dark Blues could see another shake up in management in order to ensure they return to the Premiership as quickly as possible.
Jack Ross has experienced Championship success in the past.
His St Mirren side built a large lead un the 2017/18 season, going 14 points clear at the top of the table in February.
Despite interest from other clubs - including EFL Championship side Barnsley - Ross opted to remain in Paisley and went on to win promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
Ross then moved to Sunderland but spent less than 18 months in charge despite leading the North East side to the League One play-off final in his fist season in charge.
His latest post was at Hibs where he led the Leith outfit to a Scottish League Cup semi final and Scottish Cup Final.
Ross' Hibs side finished third in the Scottish Premiership in the 2020/21 season - their highest finishing position in 16 years.
However, he was sacked in December 2021 after. run of seven defeats in nine league clashes.
