Jack Ross has set his sights on "consistent success" after being appointed Dundee United manager just six days after Tam Courts left the club.
Ross was sacked by Hibs last December just days before the League Cup Final but will now be taking over the reins at Tannadice.
Courts' departure was a shock to the Tannadice club. The former Kelty Hearts boss missed out on the Rijeka job, but the 40-year-old landed the managerial post at Hungarian side Honved.
Ross was linked with the other job in the City of Discovery but dropped out of the running to take over at Dundee after Mark McGhee's departure.
He had spells at Hibs and Sunderland after building a solid reputation during stints at Alloa and St Mirren and led Hibs to to the League Cup final but was axed before getting the chance to lead them out at Hampden.
And he told Dundee United TV: “I’ve had a spell out of management and was happy to have a break.
“I’ve had offers from Scotland, England and overseas to return to work but I haven’t had that real buzz of excitement that you need to go in and do a good job.
“In all the conversations I’ve had with the club, I’ve felt that buzz and excitement. I firmly believe I’ve been given a fantastic opportunity at a terrific football club.
“What we did last year was brilliant, but the challenge is to deliver consistent success to the club.
“There’s a historical aspect to this too. I grew up with Scottish football and I understand Dundee United’s historical standing in the game.
“It’s already a big club but the potential is there for it to continue growing.
“I’ve got to deliver success to meet those expectations.
United fans will be hoping that they have finally found a bit of stability in their managerial role having not had a manager stay longer than one year since Jackie McNamara, who was with the Tangerines from 2013 till 2015, and having had 25 managers in the past 30 years.
Ross will lead United into Europe for the first time in a decade and his first competitive games in charge will be in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, meaning a full preseason for Ross and his squad will be critical for their European hopes.
