Jack O'Connell's "mind was blown" when Angelina Jolie chartered a helicopter to fly him home to Derby for a pub dinner with his family.
The 34-year-old actor worked with Angelina when she cast him in her 2014 war drama 'Unbroken' and he's revealed she treated him to a special celebration in his hometown with all of his "nearest and dearest" - and Jack admits his grandmother had the best time getting to know the Hollywood star.
When asked if his "mind was blown" by the experience, he told The Times newspaper: "Definitely. The whole thing was so enormous to happen in my early twenties.
"But I was trying to play it cool. If I’d let myself dwell on the enormity, I couldn’t have focused on delivering."
He added of his gran: "My nan was the coolest of us all though. She was like: ‘All right, Angie?’ At dinner, she took it upon herself to stand up and say a few words.
"It’s a testament again to that wartime generation. She was so articulate. She really made a mark on Angelina. For all I know they’re still in touch."
In the interview, Jack also spoke about his close relationship with his mum and revealed he bought her a house as soon as he started making good money from his work.
He explained: "It’s instilled in us boys, growing up, that if you find any kind of success, your mum’s the first person you want to have sitting pretty. Now she’s a lady of leisure/businessperson with the best social life I know of anyone."
Jack has previously admitted Angelina was nervous about casting him in 'Unbroken' - which marked her directorial debut - because he wasn't very well known and also has a troubled past as a tearaway teen.
He told the Guardian newspaper: "She was under a lot of pressure from the studio and numerous people to get it right ... So you can imagine what it was like, trying to convince them about this complete unknown ...
"They did the background checks on me. Because I think they were a bit worried, you know?"
