Anjelica Huston got a "heartbreakingly sweet" offer of help from her ex-boyfriend Jack Nicholson during the California wildfires.
'The Addams Family' star was forced to flee her home as a blaze threatened her neighbourhood during the disaster earlier this year and she's revealed her former lover - who she dated on and off from the 1970s until 1990 - got in touch to make sure she was able to get to safety.
Anjelica, 73, told PEOPLE: "The phone just rang out of nowhere, and it was him. It's always a comfort when he calls."
She explained Jack asked if she had anywhere to stay but she declined his offer of help.
The actress added: "It was heartbreakingly sweet. I’ve gone back over it several times in my head, and I think next time I’d accept the invitation."
Anjelica went on to marry sculptor Robert Graham - who died in 2008 - but she stayed friends with Jack over the years despite the breakdown of their relationship.
However, Anjelica admits she doesn't get to see 'The Shining' star as often as she would like because there are always roadworks going on close to his house and he gets annoyed when she's late for their meetings.
She said: "Life gets in the way. Also, for some reason, they've been doing endless rerouting and road work near his house, so it takes hours to get to him, and that's always irritating.
"I always managed to be late going to see him, which is very irritating for him."
Anjelica previously revealed she waited until the very last minute before evacuating her beloved ranch as the wildfires spread, admitting to Radio Times magazine she didn't leave until "the fire had reached the house next door".
She said she left most of her possessions behind, but took her pets and some much-loved photographs as she fled the fire.
When asked what she took with her, she told the publication: "Well, my dogs, obviously. And then my photographs".
Anjelica later found out her home had been spared even though the flames had gutted the house next door.
The wildfires devastated southern California after they broke out in January - leaving 30 people dead and destroying more than 18,000 homes.
