Jack Monroe says she is in 'absolute hell and very unwell' as she issues distressing update

Food journalist Jack Monroe has taken to social media to issue a distressing update. The 35-year-old revealed that she is “very unwell” as a result of constant harassment - both online and in real life.

Jack’s emotional tweet began: “I’m not at home at the moment and haven’t been for some time - acting on police advice - and won’t be returning for the foreseeable future. As fun as it is to watch them all ringing my video doorbell and peering in my windows, fleet streets finest should probably save themselves the fruitless trip to the seaside and leave me and my family the f**k alone.

“I’ve had to split my family up and we are all staying separately for our own safety. I’m in absolute f***ing HELL, thank you very much to the trolls who have been sharing my home address all over the internet with no consideration for the CHILD who lives there. Because yes, despite their ridiculous lies, I am the parent with primary custody of my son, and always have been. He thankfully has no idea what’s going on, and no longer reads my Twitter because it’s too toxic and upsetting for him. Leave me alone so I can get well, please.” For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.

Upon posting the tweet, Jack, who is from Southend-on-Sea, was met with numerous messages of support. “Oh gosh kid that's awful, and criminal. I wish there was something we could all do. Sending love, pathetic and inadequate as that is,” one person said.

A second added: “I’m so sorry that you’re having to do this Jack. I hope you and your boy will be able to live in peace asap x” And a third wrote: “Prayers for you Jack and the Child too. And all those who love and care for you. May you be safe. May you be well. May you be fee to live your lives as they do. And may you be happy.”

As mentioned, in a further post Jack outlined how the invasion on her privacy had impacted her health. She wrote: “I have been very unwell for a very long time as a direct result of constant, daily, horrendous harassment and abuse both online and seeping into my physical and tangible everyday life. Today I woke up in someone else’s home, having slept better than I’ve slept in months, feeling calm and safe and ready to fight back. I know I’ve been disorganised and chaotic around some stuff, I live with myself. Everywhere I go, there I f***ing am. I don’t need to be told I can be messy sometimes! But I’m trying to sort it all out. And to do that, I need space and peace and my friends and family and a clear head. Onwards. X”
