In what will be his first fight in front of a home crowd for over a decade, Liverpool’s Jack McGann says his next bout will be a special occasion for him on a personal note.
The unbeaten welterweight prospect last boxed at home as a teenager but will be returning on Friday 2nd September at the Shankly Hotel as he headlines Neilson Boxing’s show – their first in the city.
In addition to wanting to impress his local fans, McGann has added motivation to perform following the death of his grandfather, Tony McGann CBE, MBE, who was also awarded the freedom of the city after his work for the people of Liverpool.

McGann will square up against Edvinas Puplauskas, and the 29-year-old super-welterweight says he is looking forward to feeling the support from his home city.
“It’s been 13 years since I’ve boxed at home, when I fought in MMA I fought in Manchester, but the stars never aligned for a fight in Liverpool,” he said.
“Liverpool has always been a fighting city and it has always bred great fighters. Look what they are doing in MMA at the minute with Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann.
“For how small of a city we are, we light the world up when it comes to fighting. It’s always been like that and it will always be like that.
“I’m looking forward to fighting at home, I’ve had great support from people and my Grandad would have been there, so I’m fighting for him too.
“Without my fans and my sponsors like the charity Power of One, none of this would have even been possible.”
In addition to McGann, there will be further Merseyside talent on display as unbeaten duo Brad Strand (7-0) and Adam Carberry (2-0) join Marcel Braithwaite and Leon Willings (4-1) on the card.
Neilson Boxing Promoter, Mark Neilson said: “This is a landmark show for us as it is our first time putting on a show in Liverpool.
“We are so proud to be able to bring Jack back to his home fans and also show them a whole host of talent that is from the city.”
