Jack Lowden says he'd 'love to direct' with partner Saoirse Ronan

SCOTTISH actor Jack Lowden has said he would “love to direct” his partner Saoirse Ronan in a film one day.

The Slow Horses star is a producer on Ronan’s new film The Outrun – which recently had its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Based on Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir of the same name, the film documents a woman’s experience recovering from alcoholism in her childhood home in Orkney.

Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Lowden was asked what it was like working with his partner, after the pair recently married.

He said: “She (Ronan) is first and foremost, in terms of the arts, one of the elite actors I think that’s working even at how young she still is.

“It was one of the great joys of my life doing that project (The Outrun). It’s such a hard thing to get an independent film made.”

The Outrun has been widely tipped for Oscar success with Ronan having previously picked up a nomination on four occasions.

Lowden meanwhile has been nominated in for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Slow Horses at the upcoming Emmy Awards.

He continued: “I would love to direct her (Ronan). I know she wants to direct as well. So it’s just, it’s quite exciting to see what we do.

“But we’re in no rush at all. We’re in no rush. We want to love it still. We want to love it because it’s a tough, tough thing to get a film made.”

Speaking at the festival, Ronan said she was “very important” that the UK premiere of the film was held in Scotland given its links to the country.

It previously received critical acclaim after being shown at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States.
