Jack Fowler 'wiped out' by terrifying meningitis ordeal in secret health battle

Love Island star Jack Fowler has opened up about battling meningitis as well as a terrifying neurological disease at the start of the year.

The 24-year-old reality star, who shot to fame on the ITV dating show, was reduced to a wheelchair after he was nearly 'wiped out' by the aggressive condition.

Bravely opening up about his ordeal on social media, Jack revealed to fans that he had meningitis as well as transverse myelitis - a rare neurological disorder that affects nerves in the spinal chord.

The reality star shared the news with his 1.3 million Instagram followers alongside a sun-filled picture taken during his holiday to Greece.

"2020. What a year so far," Jack wrote on social media.

"Meningitis & transverse myelitis nearly wiped me out at the beginning, but feeling very blessed to be out here chasing the Sun."

Jack's profile has been flooded with messages from concerned fans who praised him for opening up about his health battle.

"Setbacks paving ways for major comebacks brother. have fun the both of you @iamjoanne_x x" wrote one pal.

"Deserving of every second of this. proud of you for getting through so much," penned his girlfriend Joanne.

Although Jack faced two terrifying health scares at the start of 2020, it didn't stop the reality star sharing lots of hunky pictures on social media.

Speaking to Oxford Union, Jack explained that he was secretly battling the condition despite portraying a jetsetter lifestyle on Instagram.

Instagram, social media is absolutely fake. At the start of this year — no one knows this — I had something called transverse myelitis," he said.

“I lost all movement in my legs and my left arm, paralysed, I was in a wheelchair for two or three weeks.

“On my Instagram I was having a wicked time, I was having a great time.

"I was in Dubai, I was in Thailand for all of the two weeks because that’s the ’gram making it look like that.

"But realistically, I wasn’t — I was going through the hardest time of my life.”

Jack appears to have recovered from the condition and is currently enjoying a lavish holiday to Greece alongside his girlfriend Joanne Baban Morales.
