Jack Byrne highlights 'mental' crowd antics as Shamrock Rovers beat Bohemians

Jack Byrne described the 'mental' behaviour from sections of Bohemians support as Shamrock Rovers won 2-0 at Dalymount Park on Friday night.

The Republic of Ireland playmaker was involved in both goals as he assisted Neil Farrugia in the first half whilst also taking the free-kick that resulted in Rory Gaffney's strike to double the Hoops lead.

Byrne's animated celebration sparked outrage amongst the home support as objects were launched at the Rovers players.

"The stuff we have to deal with when we come up here with the fans is mental," Byrne told the Irish Mirror.

"Somebody threw a vape at me as I was walking in at half time, it missed me by about two centimetres.

"Some of the shouts out of them as well, it's not what you want but we get it all the time so you have to deal with it."

The 26-year-old was delighted with the manner of their victory as the Hoops aim to build on back-to-back wins.

"We know we're playing well, with two really good wins against Dundalk away and tonight against Bohs," Byrne added.

"There's a bit of confidence building so hopefully we can go on a run now."

The victory means Rovers move up to fifth, with the gap to table toppers Bohemians reduced to seven points.

Stephen Bradley's side have a quick turnaround as they host UCD at Tallaght Stadium on Monday night.
