Jack Butland sends David de Gea heartfelt message as Manchester United legend departs Old Trafford

Rangers man Jack Butland has showered former Manchester United teammate David de Gea with adoration after the Spaniard's spell at Manchester United came to an abrupt end.

De Gea signed for United in 2011 for a fee of around £18million from Atletico Madrid, and even though he was a youngster when he joined the Red Devils, he has since seen over a decade of drama at Old Trafford, racking up five major trophies, 415 Premier League appearances and 545 outings in all competitions to cement his status as a United legend.

Missing just 13 Premier League games since the start of the 2017-18 season, it will seem odd when he won't be in United's ranks next season, as he looks for a new adventure somewhere else - be it in the top-flight or abroad. And with tributes flooding in thanking him and praising him for his services to the club, new Rangers man Butland has given his words to the 32-year-old in a nine-word message.

The Englishman said in an Instagram story: "Best wishes brother, a club legend in every sense."

Butland spent time with De Gea this season amid his loan spell at Old Trafford when he joined United on loan from Crystal Palace, though he failed to make a single appearance for the Red Devils in his six-month emergency loan spell.

Incidentally, Butland and Rangers are undergoing a similar goalkeeper shape up this season. Allan McGregor leaving on a free transfer has given the club a decision to make on bringing in a new stopper, with Butland the chosen man to take over the reins at Ibrox.

For United, it seems increasingly likely that Andre Onana will be De Gea's replacement, with the club close to agreeing a fee with Inter Milan for his services in the region of £50million.
