Jack Butland completes Rangers transfer as Michael Beale lands new No 1 to replace Allan McGregor

Jack Butland is ready to rock at Rangers after signing a four-year deal.

The former Crystal Palace keeper, who was on loan at Manchester United, is understood to have agreed to big reduction in wages to get the Ibrox switch over the line on a free transfer. Michael Beale was in desperate need of a new No. 1 keeper after Allan McGregor's contract wasn't renewed, with the veteran expected to hang up his gloves this summer after signing on for one more year in 2022.

Despite Robby McCrorie being offered a chance to impress, Beale wanted an experienced option to call on as his first choice. And after negotiations with the former England international, Butland will be between the sticks in Govan for the upcoming campaign and beyond. McCrorie will likely be promoted to second choice after Jon McLaughlin was told he could leave if he found himself a new club.

Jack Butland has signed for Rangers (Rangers FC)

Butland joins Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling as the fellow new boys at Rangers, with Michael Beale turning to the English market for his summer rebuild so far. His next addition could come from further afield however, with LAFC's Jose Cifuentes set to sign after his club's two-legged CONCACAF Champions League final against Leon.

Speaking as a Rangers player for the first time, Butland said: "I’m over the moon. The club speaks for itself. No matter where you are in football, you know about Rangers Football Club. This is a huge opportunity for me, and I’m delighted to be here.

“I feel great and motivated at the age that I am, and I feel excited at what the future holds. Doing that at a club that is equally as passionate about winning and being at the top was huge for me.

“It’s an important summer for the club and we need to get off to a good start. Getting the work done early is hugely important, so that we’re settled and raring to go when we come back in.”
