Jack Black’s song from The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be eligible for an Oscar nomination.
The comedian stars as Bowser in the film, which has been smashing the box office records despite being panned by critics, and his song, Peaches, in the hit animated film may be one of the first Oscars original song contenders of the year.
Evil Bowser is Mario’s (Chris Pratt) nemesis in the movie and he belts out the now viral power ballad, which will be eligible to submit for best original song consideration at the awards ceremony, Universal has confirmed to Variety.
Peaches is about Bowser’s unrequited love for Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor Joy), who is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom.
The song is co-written by Black, the film’s directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, as well as Eric Osmond and John Spiker.
Sitting at his piano in his Koopa dragon evil lair, Black’s Bowser is seen belting out the song, which reverberates through the active volcano in which he lives.
He sings: "Peach, you’re so cool. And with my star we’re gonna rule. Peach, understand, I’m gonna love you ’til the very end.
"Princess Peach, at the end of the line, I’ll make you mine."
He continues: "Mario, Luigi, and Donkey Kong, too. A thousand troops of Koopas couldn’t keep me from you."

The silly song will be in good company.
