Jack Antonoff's color-drenched cream bedroom encourages a peaceful night's sleep – but estate agents say it has benefits beyond wellness

Jack Antonoff.

Jack Antonoff, best known for co-writing songs with the likes of Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey (while also fronting his rock band Bleachers), is naturally among the most talked about figures in the music industry. With his reputation comes an inevitable hectic schedule and, consequently, the need for a restful place to rest his head – but thankfully, his bedroom is fit for his purpose.

Antonoff color-drenched his bedroom in the most therapeutic hues of all, cream, in a move that promotes peace and serenity in a space where it matters the most. Neutral bedrooms are known for their ability to promote a good night's sleep, but, as real estate experts explain, there's even more to this palette than its wellness benefits.

'Neutral colors can transform a bedroom into a sanctuary of calm. In my experience, soft, muted tones like cream work wonders in creating a serene atmosphere that potential buyers instantly connect with. I've noticed that these colors act as a versatile backdrop, allowing homeowners to easily switch up their decor without clashing with the walls,' comments Ryan Fitzgerald, a real estate expert from Raleigh Realty. 'Personally, I always advise my clients to consider neutrals when staging their bedrooms for sale.'

'These colors have an incredible ability to make spaces feel larger and more inviting. I've observed that rooms with neutral palettes tend to photograph better for listings, which can significantly impact a property's appeal to potential buyers,' Fitzgerald says.

However, whether we're looking to sell or not, a cream or off-white bedroom has its benefits – most significantly for those looking to improve their sleep quality.

'While I'm not a sleep expert, I've received numerous positive feedbacks from clients who've followed my advice on using neutrals in their bedrooms. They often report feeling more relaxed and experiencing better sleep quality. I believe this is because these colors create a peaceful environment that helps quiet the mind after a long day,' Fitzgerald comments. Tapping into the look is simple, whether we color drench like Antonoff or incorporate white or cream as a versatile base to balance bolder bedroom colors. We particularly love Antonoff's cream headboard that complements his white bedding, but Fitzgerald recommends introducing cream with paint before layering different shades of neutrals through bedding, curtains, and rugs (much like the one above, available from CB2).

'In my opinion, the key is to create depth by mixing textures – think a plush carpet, smooth cotton sheets, and a chunky knit throw,' he says.

'In my years of experience in real estate, I've come to appreciate how the right color palette can significantly impact not just the aesthetics of a home, but also the well-being of its occupants,' he adds.

'Neutral-toned bedrooms, in my view, offer the perfect balance of style and functionality, creating a space that's both visually appealing and conducive to rest.'
