Insta gal Jacey Duprie a.k.a Damsel in Dior and her husband, Grant Leavitt have collaborated with fellow husband-wife duo, Jason and Laura O’Dell of THE ODELLS Shop to design a suitably wafty and summery capsule collection.
Available now at Nordstrom.com, the line is made up of both womenswear and menswear so you can perfectly match with your other half. The collection will take you from the mountains to the sea with textures that mimic mountain landscapes and a nautical color palette of easy to wear navy and cream. Silhouettes are oh-so-relaxed, think flouncy dresses, a wide leg jumpsuit, and a fisherman’s cardigan, as well as yarn dyed shirts, contrast pocket tees and casual twill jackets for the boys.
Felicity Carter: What was your first fashion memory?
Jacey Duprie: I was a flower girl in my cousins wedding and got to wear a long, green dress that made me feel like a princess. After the wedding, my Mom let me play in the backyard wearing it. Every time I put on the dress I transformed into Alice in Wonderland. Since then I’ve always believed that what you are wearing can truly have an impact on the person you want to become.
FC: How did the collaboration come about?
JD: I have been a big fan of the ODELLS for many years. We visited Jason and Laura and their studio in Silverlake and thought it would be a really fun idea to combine our combined love of the outdoors by designing something together.
FC: Tell us about the collection…
JD: In an industry where design collaborations are plentiful, we wanted to do something a bit differently by developing a full his and hers range as one full and cohesive collection. By offering pieces that speak to creative, successful women, as well as the confident men who support them on their journey, we hope that this capsule collection reflects the lifestyle of a self-assured, modern couple who values their connectivity as much as they do their independence. I’ve been approached many times in the past to work with a brand on designing a capsule collection, but I won’t partner up with a brand unless it feels 100% right. The ODELLS marries very well with DAMSEL and we wanted to create pieces that we truly loved which is why the collection is very curated. There are only 17 pieces, all of which are perfect to welcome in the spring and summer season.
FC: How does it evoke the Cali vibe?
JD: The collection screams Cali vibe to me because it’s more relaxed pieces for every day wear. California has a very mild climate but the evenings have a little chill in the air which is why we have the sweater that can be worn over every piece.
FC: What on your mood board for this line?
JD: Sailboats, beaches, lakes, and camping. The mood is “from the mountains to the sea.”
FC: What’s your favorite piece from the collection, and how do you wear yours?
JD: I really love the long button-down dress because it’s incredibly comfortable and something I wear everywhere. I love styling it over a swimsuit on the boat, running errands in LA with mules or with a denim jacket over for a relaxed dinner with friends.
