Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Thursday at the NFL Honors before Chase’s Bengals take on the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI, the NFL announced Chase as the winner.
Chase had a Randy Moss-esque rookie debut, catching 81 passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 18 yards per catch.
Keep in mind Chase did this with the background context being polarizing, as many onlookers thought the team should’ve made an offensive tackle, not Chase, the fifth-overall pick.
Instead, Chase had one of the best seasons by a rookie wideout ever and was the main reason for the team’s offensive spark, and therefore Super Bowl berth. Over three playoff games, he surpassed the 1,700-yard mark, too.
Chase was also previously named the Pro Football Writers’ Offensive Rookie of the Year.
