The Arizona Cardinals are in the process of hiring a new head coach. One of the candidates is San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans.
Ryans is a former teammate of recently retired defensive lineman J.J. Watt.
Watt gave a ringing endorsement of Ryans as a potential head coach on social media over the weekend.
As rookie in Houston, I bought my first house across the street from DeMeco because if Meco thought it was the right place to live, it was the right place to live for me.
Captain, leader, smart, tough, personable, crushed it as DC…
He will be a great head coach. https://t.co/OjUdnUxVR6

Watt tweeted how he tried to emulate Ryans when he was a rookie.
“As rookie in Houston, I bought my first house across the street from DeMeco because if Meco thought it was the right place to live, it was the right place to live for me,” he said.
Watt continues, stating how Ryans was a captain and a leader. He is “smart, tough, personable” and he “crushed it” as a defensive coordinator.
“He will be a great head coach.”
Ryans’ 49ers defense was No. 1 in the league in yards and points allowed. The 49ers just advanced to the NFC Championship Game with a win ove rthe Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Ryans had an interview scheduled with the Cardinals on Saturday but reportedly canceled because he had four scheduled that day.
If the Cardinals still wish to interview him, they must wait until next week after the conference championship games.
