In his post-free agency NFL mock draft for Touchdown Wire, Doug Farrar has the Denver Broncos landing Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Farrar’s mock starts out as one would expect, with the Chicago Bears selecting quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. After that, things get a little crazy. The Las Vegas Raiders trade up to No. 2 to pick QB Jayden Daniels, leaving Drake Maye for the New England Patriots at No. 3.
Two picks later, the Minnesota Vikings trade up to pick No. 5 to select QB Bo Nix. That would be a dream scenario for the Broncos.
In this mock, McCarthy falls all the way to No. 12, where Denver picks him.
“Sean Payton gets the timing-and-rhythm passer he desperately wanted in Denver with Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy,” Farrar wrote.
The Vikings do appear poised to trade up for a QB, but it would be a surprise if they select Nix. McCarthy seems unlikely to actually fall to the Broncos at No. 12, but we certainly wouldn’t complain if he did.
