Northwestern attacker Izzy Scane made history on Sunday during the NCAA Tournament by breaking the Division I record for women's lacrosse goals. Scane achieved this milestone by scoring her 359th career goal in just 81 games, surpassing the previous record held by Charlotte North.

Charlotte North, who played for Boston College and Duke from 2018-2022, had previously set the record at 358 goals in 87 games. Scane's remarkable achievement solidifies her as one of the top scorers in women's lacrosse history.

Scane's record-breaking goal came in the first period of the game against Denver, showcasing her exceptional skill and scoring prowess. The Northwestern Wildcats, led by Scane, are aiming for their second consecutive national championship and ninth overall for the esteemed program.

As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Northwestern received a bye into the second round, setting the stage for their title defense. Scane's dominant performance on the field has been a key factor in the team's success, with her impressive statistics highlighting her impact.

Last season, Scane recorded 99 goals and 35 assists in just 20 games, earning her the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, the highest honor in college lacrosse. Her exceptional play has once again placed her as a finalist for the award this year, underscoring her consistent excellence.

Scane's journey to the record books included a standout performance in the Big Ten Tournament championship, where she scored five goals to lead Northwestern to a 14-12 victory over Penn State. This win avenged an earlier loss to the Nittany Lions and showcased Scane's ability to deliver in crucial moments.

Throughout the current season, Scane has continued her stellar form, tallying 70 goals and 17 assists in 17 games leading up to the NCAA tournament. Her impact on the Wildcats' success cannot be understated, as she remains a pivotal figure in their quest for another national title.

With her record-breaking achievement and exceptional talent, Izzy Scane has solidified her legacy as one of the greatest goal scorers in women's lacrosse history, bringing pride to Northwestern and inspiring future generations of players.
