Ivy League Takes Thinly Veiled Jab at Power 5 as Realignment Rages

As conference realignment continues to engulf college sports, one conference with no ties to the ongoing craze decided to have a little fun on Friday in light of recent news.

In the wake of Friday’s announcement that Oregon and Washington will join the Big Ten, the Ivy League decided to share a curiously-timed post on Twitter acknowledging its eight longtime members: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same,” the conference wrote in a tweet along with a picture including the logos of the conference and all eight schools.

While the tweet could’ve been a coincidence, it seemed more than likely that the Ivy League was looking to send a thinly-veiled shot at the Power 5 and the conferences involved in the latest waves of moves.

Oregon and Washington’s stunning defection from the Pac-12 for the Big Ten came on the heels of fellow Pac-12 program Colorado’s recent move back to the Big 12, and reports that Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are set to follow suit.

Needless to say, the not-so-subtle message attracted plenty of attention with fans still reeling from Friday’s news, as some wondered about the Ivy League’s own future. And, while no moves appear on the horizon, some joked that even the Ivy League could see some fluctuation in a year’s time, considering the movement taking place around the college sports world.
