Ivan Toney follows up "f*** Brentford" video with new clip slating the Bees

Brentford forward Ivan Toney has once again gone viral for all the wrong reasons after footage of a conversation between himself and a fan was uploaded to TikTok and Twitter.

The short clip shows Toney discussing cryptocurrency with the person recording, who is clearly oblivious to who he is as he soon asks what the Premier League striker does for a living. Toney tells the cameraman what he does which prompts questions of who he is and what team he plays for.

"Nowhere exciting" was Toney's reply, two words that have sparked uproar online with plenty of football fans accusing the 26-year-old of disrespecting his own team. This latest incident comes two months after Toney was filmed shouting the words "f*** Brentford" in a video that prompted an apology from the striker to Brentford fans, the club and his manager.

That particular video saw Toney hurl obscenities alongside a woman and a number of others who all also shouted "f*** Brentford" in the clip. The footage prompted a Premier League investigation which led to a grovelling apology from the former Newcastle United man.

"I am aware of a video that was published on social media … in it I used language that was unacceptable," he said in a statement on social media. "The video was cut short and edited, but I have to accept the impact this has had and I realise I should not have put myself in that position.

"I have explained to the gaffer what happened and apologised to him but I also want to apologise to all Brentford fans. I respect the way you all support the team and I have to say how much I love playing for the club and for you. I’ll be back at training next week, working hard to score more goals to win us more games for the rest of the season."

Toney has been in fine form of late and as a result Brentford may be reluctant to take any kind of action that would see him dropped from the Bees side. The striker has seven goals in his last six outings after notching his first Premier League hat-trick against Norwich earlier this month.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has recently talked up Toney's chance of catching the eye of England manager Gareth Southgate. "I think there is very big competition in the England squad. I really like Ivan as a player and I think especially the last few games he’s played, he’s been fantastic.

"I think if he continues at this level he will get the call-up sooner rather than later. It’s about that consistency in his performances that will let him get that call-up, but I would say the competition is quite big. If Ivan is competing against another striker who is on a similar level, maybe his ability on penalties maybe just edges it for him to get picked for the squad."
