ITV1 Unforgotten writer Chris Lang issues plea to viewers over episodes

Unforgotten creator and writer Chris Lang has issued a plea to viewers after all six episodes of series five dropped on ITV's streaming service ITVX. The new season kicked off on ITV1 at 9pm on Monday, February 27, but following its launch viewers were able to binge the series.

The first episode saw new DCI Jessica James introduced to viewers for the first time. Played by Dublin-born Sinéad Keenan, the role comes following the shock death of DCI Cassie Stewart, played by Nicola Walker, at the end of series four. You can read more about what happened to Cassie here.

Following Sinéad's debut many viewers took to social media to share their thoughts and you can read their opinions here. However with so many fans now deciding to binge the series rather than watch the episodes weekly writer Chris has made a request.

Posting on Twitter he asked people to stop sharing spoilers in order to "maximise enjoyment" for everyone. He said: "Thx so much for all your lovely comments about Unforgotten!

"Lots of you bingeing, so can I politely ask you don't post any specific details about an episode later than the weekly broadcast - let's maximise enjoyment for all, however we watch it. Ta!"

His request comes after viewers were left divided over ITV's decision to put all the episodes on ITVX. One person wrote: "I'm sad people can binge. I've always enjoyed watching a cult favourite episode by episode together with the rest of the nation!"

Another added: "I'll still be watching weekly. Still enjoy the old-school viewing habit for certain shows." And a third viewer agreed: "Definitely creates more buzz around a drama, ITV should keep some weekly learn from how well BBC #happyvalley3 did sticking to weekly!" You can read more on this here.
