ITV Trigger Point: viewers of Vicky McClure drama divided over explosive opening to show

The third episode of new ITV drama Trigger Point, starring Vicky McClure, aired today (February 6), and viewers have reacted to its dramatic opening.

The high-octane drama centres around explosives officer Lana Washington, played by McClure, who is initially called out to investigate a potential bomb factory in a London housing estate.

In the last episode, the discovery of what appeared to be military equipment and high-grade explosives made Lana question the real identity of the bombers, and a further device left in a sensitive and provocative location seemed to confirm her suspicions.

In this episode, a far-right group claimed responsibility for the mosque attack seen in the second and third episodes, declaring it was in revenge for the earlier Westhaven bombing.

It featured a number of tense scenes, including when a bomb disposal robot and Lana were shot at as the team tried to diffuse an explosive device, leading to a dangerous battle in a tower block.

As well as the start of the episode, which showed Lana attempting to save a terrified hostage.

But this moment split opinion, as viewers took to Twitter to share their feelings on the bomb squad's lack of success in the show as another device was triggered.

@Simon1927 tweeted: "They’re not a very good bomb squad are they? #TriggerPoint."

@thehatandbeard agreed and said: "They’re not much cop at their job. #TriggerPoint."

@CombeGibbet tweeted: "I'm no expert, but shaking a door around with a bomb on a mercury trigger attached doesn't seem like approved procedure? #triggerpoint."

@daryl_millar said: "The bomb disposal team in Trigger Point don't seem too good at their job."

@Crown_Employee added: "Ah yes, let’s have a fight and pull each other away right next to a balance controlled IED! I keep saying to myself “I mustn’t shout at the TV…it’s just drama” but seriously, common sense #TriggerPoint."

Others loved the dramatic and fast-paced opening of the programme that carried on from the last episode.

@Gembear97 tweeted: "Wow that was an opening. Triggerpoint."

@kerrylouise_93 added: "Just saying @Vicky_McClure is bloody brilliant in trigger point."

@HolmeJanet said: "Enjoying #Triggerpoint."

@connordoner tweeted: "If the producers have done one thing well, it's making you feel just how tense the situation is. #TriggerPoint."

@michaelamarie24 said: "Trigger point time! Loving this. #TriggerPoint."

The latest episode, which marks the halfway point of the series, left viewers with a lot of questions as characters tried to piece who was behind the series of attacks.

The fourth episode of Trigger Point will air at 9pm on Sunday, February 13.
